I recently went to a concert (October 23rd) to see Watsky. The concert was incredible, and his performance was amazing. I was also impressed with his opening acts, one of which was Witt Lowry. Witt caught my attention with his first few songs, which were emotional but not sappy, as well as his impressive rhyme scheming. After performing a few other pieces, including a spoken word poem and a lyrical showcase rap, I knew that I had just discovered another rapper to love. Since then, I've listened to a whole bunch of his work, including his most recent album, Dreaming with our Eyes Open. I recognized several of the songs from the album as ones he performed live. And overall, I absolutely love this album.
This album is characterized by Witt's signature style of emotional, heart-felt rap. But make no mistake, songs like "Tried to be Nice" and "Ladders" are anything but that, boasting insane lyrical talent that will leave your jaw dropped. His delivery in this album can only be described as perfect. You can feel the emotion and pain behind some songs, his anger and confidence in others. That's right, none of that mumbling meaningless rap to be found here. Needless to say, his lyrics are crafted by his unique style and are the complete package of rhyme scheme, message, and catchiness.
My favorite songs of the album are "Dreaming with our Eyes Open", "Piece of my Mind 3", "Tried to be Nice", and "So Many Nights". But honestly, there are no songs on the album I don't like. Though its not on the album, I also love his song "Like I do".
I would highly recommend this album to fans of underground rap.
