Why Did I start this Blog?
For my first post, I will be answering the question "Why did I choose to blog about this topic?". The reason is simple: I love music and writing. I myself spend much of my free time creating music and writing poetry. These are two of my passions. So naturally, I would blog about something I enjoy. But there's another reason as well. Most of my favorite music is by underground artists. This means artists who are not mainstream, and often times are independent or unsigned. I wanted the opportunity to share these artists with others. I wanted to compare their music with that of mainstream artists. I prefer music with a good message, complex rhyme scheming, wordplay, and overall impressive lyricism. Most mainstream music lacks these aspects and instead focuses on being catchy. Now, don't get me wrong, there's nothing wrong with that. Of course I like some music like that, I mean, have you heard the Suicide Squad sound track? Love it. But my preference still lies with the prior. Another thing to note is that some mainstream artists do include some of the fore mentioned attributes in their music. Namely, Twenty-One Pilots. However, even the likes of Justin Timberlake, Taylor Swift, and on occasion Drake produce music that follows those guidelines. So stay tuned to get a taste of some new music as well as an analysis of music/lyricism in general.

ReplyDeleteYeah absolutely!
DeleteYou are clearly passionate about music in all its intricacies and wonders, which is illustrated in your sense of voice and through your discussion of the "story" behind you blog. Nice start! You are also looking seriously at how different artist, even mainstream artists, do use some aspects of what you appreciate most about music, which opens to doors to more possible readers of your topic. Think also about the impact that music has on our world, our sense of self, and our cultural standards - how do these non-mainstream artists influence or effect other aspects of the world around us?
